Labor Strikes:

- April 6, 2010

Workers from the Sabalan Parche textile factory in northern Iran began striking and protesting in front of the governor’s office. They have been working for seven months without pay. This is just the most recent protest from the labor community. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, during the election campaign, had promised that the factory would employ over 5,000 workers at high wages, but the amount of workers have been cut dramatically and the workers have gone unpaid.

- April 5, 2010

Kaveh Rezaee, an expelled student of Hamedan University, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was arrested on Feb.16, 2009 by Intelligence Ministry’s agents. He stands accused of acting against national security, propagating against the state, and insulting the Supreme Leader.

- April 4, 2010

A Kurdish merchant was killed by security forces on April 4th near the border in northwestern Iran. Osman Ashi was a resident of Bizhooy village. This was the second killing in the region in the last few days. Last week, Ribvar Nosrati was shot by Iranian police near the village of Baneh. He was a suspected smuggler. On Sunday, there were protests in Sardasht near the governor’s office.

- April 4, 2010

Abolfazl Abedini, a freelance journalist and human rights activist, was sentenced to an 11 year prison term in Evin Prison. Lashes are part of his sentence. According to Rhairan, he was condemned for “5 years on one count of having links to enemy states, 5 years on one count of membership in the HRA and 1 year for anti-state propaganda activities by talking to foreign media outlets.”

- March 25, 2010

According to the Student Committee in Iran,

Suppressive SSF and regime’s security forces raided Dazaveh Village in Paveh and arrested some of the villagers. This raid took place on March 25th and 15 villagers were arrested. A woman and a child were injured and taken to hospital.
